FORMULA E SEASON 9: A WIN, SOME PODIUMS AND PLENTY OF LEARNING FOR DS AUTOMOBILES
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship concluded its ninth season on July 30 at the ExCeL circuit in London. This important era introduced the third-generation single-seater (Gen3), with Season 9 going down in history as one of the most intense battles since the creation of the all-electric series.
FORMULA E SEASON 9: A WIN, SOME PODIUMS AND PLENTY OF LEARNING FOR DS AUTOMOBILES
During the seven months of fierce competition, DS Penske experienced races where not all the team’s objectives were met, but it also took away a collection of excellent results – thanks notably to some great drives from Jean-Eric Vergne.
The two-time Formula E champion showed confidence with his DS E-TENSE FE23 to claim a magnificent victory in Hyderabad (India), then second place in Cape Town (South Africa) and finally third in Berlin (Germany). The 2022 Formula E champion Stoffel Vandoorne set a brilliant pole position in Sao Paulo (Brazil), with all the combined results meaning that the DS PENSKE team sealed fifth in the teams’ championship this year.
In terms of powertrain rankings, DS Automobiles finishes third among the seven manufacturers that entered Season 9: an encouraging result given the immense competition in Formula E.
After three podiums and many valuable lessons learned through adversity, DS Automobiles is already preparing to come back to Formula E even stronger. Having claimed double titles in 2019 and 2020, the premium manufacturer from the Stellantis group intends to return to the very top in season 10!
Eugenio Franzetti, DS Performance director:
“We’ve finally reached the end of Season 9! A special moment that allows us to take stock of these long months of hard work and intense activity. In December, we got into a rollercoaster of emotions that ended on Sunday evening after the last race in London. Sometimes these were very positive emotions: such as victory in India and podiums in Cape Town then in Berlin, as well as pole position in Sao Paulo. Then there were also some more negative emotions after races that didn’t go as we would have hoped. We will use all these emotions as a base from which to build our Season 10, capitalising on the positive points and working more and more to improve the aspects that weren’t going so well. And that’s precisely what we are going to do, because we have a team full of incredibly talented people with a huge will to win, who are fully committed to doing whatever it takes to make progress. In September, we will immediately start preparing for Season 10, with the clear objective of improving on what we have been doing this season to get back to the very top tier of the leaderboard. Finally, thank you to the entire DS PENSKE ‘dream team’ for their unstinting dedication throughout this long and demanding championship.”
