New MEYLE kit with all parts needed for time-effective cardan shaft repair
Wulf Gaertner Autoparts now offers a centre bearing for the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg cardan shaft as a complete set. The new MEYLE kits contain the bearing, clamp ring, rubber boot and grease, enabling workshops to repair a faulty centre bearing easily without having to replace the complete cardan shaft, as is the case with OE equivalent. This saves on resources, avoids unnecessary costs and workshops can offer their customers a quicker repair service.
The centre bearing absorbs vibrations from the cardan shaft, keeping it in its correct position by balancing out the differing angles between the engine, which is fixed, and the flexible rear axle. The rubber is particularly vulnerable to degradation and the challenging operating conditions can make it brittle and cause it to perish, compromising the positioning of the cardan shaft. Tell-tale signs of rubber degradation are increasing vibration and noise: consult your workshop immediately. Until now Porsche Cayenne or VW Touareg drivers had no choice but to have the cardan shaft replaced completely. The new MEYLE centre bearing kits make this costly repair a thing of the past as these bearings can now be replaced individually. The workshop now has all the necessary components in a single set and no longer has to re-install older components such as the rubber boot.
The Wulf Gaertner Autoparts engineers also recommend replacing the flex disc at the same time as the centre bearing – replacing the flex disc is then a very straightforward process. “This is the only way to ensure reliable and vibration-free power transmission,” says Sven Nielsen, Technical Director at Wulf Gaertner Autoparts. “As the cardan shaft has to be removed anyway if the centre bearing needs replacement, it makes sense to replace both the bearing and the flex disc at the same time to avoid further repairs and additional costs.”
