The 2021 Honda CR-V, Passport and Odyssey have each won U.S. News & World Report “Best Car for the Money” awards in the magazine’s 2021 new car rankings.
CR-V captured the compact SUV title. “The CR-V is proof that a top-ranked car doesn’t have to be a budget buster,” said U.S. News & World Report Executive Editor Jaime Paige Deaton. “Critics and buyers alike love how easy the CR-V is to live with. Its low ownership costs are the perfect complement to the CR-V’s practicality.”
Passport prevailed in the 2-row SUV category. “The Passport is the perfect example of a car that balances value and quality,” said Deaton. “Though it isn’t the least expensive SUV in its class, it offers great long-term value, with plenty of space and comfort, and strong recommendations from critics.”
The Honda Odyssey triumphed in the minivan class. “Given how roomy and upscale the cabin on the Honda Odyssey is, you might be surprised to find that it’s not a budget buster,” Deaton noted. “While it’s not the cheapest minivan on the market, it does have the best combination of quality and value.”
The “Best Cars for the Money” awards methodology combines measures of quality and value to create an overall award score. Quality is measured by the overall score a vehicle achieved in the U.S. News car rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings, updated monthly at www.usnews.com/cars, compare cars based on safety, reliability, and a consensus of industry experts’ opinions. Value is measured by a combination of a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for the vehicle at the time the awards are published.
